Give Us Clean Hands

"They made a calf in Horeb And worshiped a molten image. Thus they exchanged their glory For the image of an ox that eats grass. They forgot God their Savior, Who had done great things in Egypt, Wonders in the land of Ham And awesome things by the Red Sea." (Psalms 106:19-22 NAS95S)

Observation:  Whenever we worship anything but Almighty God, we sell ourselves short.  He is our glory.  He is our hope.  He is our salvation.  And we are created in His image.  We were made not to worship images, but to bear His image.  We were created to reflect the glory of our Creator.  And we can only correctly reflect Him, when we fully worship Him.

Application:  What do I worship in place of my Glorious?

At times I worship the computer, the internet, and the media.  At times I worship my work and my agenda.  At times I worship the praise of men and what other people think.  At times I worship at the alter of pride.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus forgive me for worshipping at other alters.  Forgive me for robbing You of the glory You deserve by worshiping graven images.  Jesus You alone our worthy.  You alone are righteous.  You alone are glorious.  Jesus the words of the song Give Us Clean Hands come to my mind.  And I offer these words as a prayer to You just now.

Give Us Clean Hands
Charlie Hall

We bow our hearts we bend our knees
Oh Spirit come make us humble
We turn our eyes from evil things
Oh Lord we cast down our idols

Give us clean hands give us pure hearts
Let us not lift our souls to another
Give us clean hands give us pure hearts
Let us not lift our souls to another
And oh God let us be a generation that seeks
That seeks Your face oh God of Jacob
And oh God let us be a generation that seeks
That seeks Your face oh God of Jacob
